2nd thing to be grateful for

According to me, the first thing to be grateful for is to be alive. If you are dead, nothing else matters anyway. The next most important aspect of a human life is to have a body. Life exists in a body. There cannot be any life without a physical body. Hence, the next thing to be grateful for is to be healthy.

In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as- “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” In 1986, the WHO further added that health is : “A resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.”

Once a child is born, each passing day is a measure of its growth and development. Each day accounts for something in life. It can be as complicated as running a country to as simple as just lazing in bed the entire day. What you do is not important but whether you feel good in your body, mind and spirit.

The importance of all the three -physical , mental and emotional health cannot be under emphasized. Everyone is aware that even a headache is enough to disrupt your day and make you feel very uncomfortable. The case here is not how big your disease is ; it is the level of discomfort that you feel at any time.

Good health is a blessing and there is no disguise about it. Just count the number of congenital diseases that babies are born with. Isn’t it the greatest blessing to be born as a normal, healthy being and have a body that will serve you well for the rest of your life?

To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear

What cannot be controlled is beyond the scope of discussion but what can be controlled ought be a point to consider. We live an automated life,in that we keep doing things that we have done before and keep living the same lives, most of the times.

Not many times, one notices the well functioning body until something disturbing happens. It is up to us to wake up to realize that health is not to be taken for granted. It is not a blanket privilege given to all beings.

Strive to be in the pink of health!

Every ambition can be fulfilled and every dream can be achieved. As they say, nothing is impossible. But health issues are such that they creep into every area of our lives like unwanted weeds.

Become aware of what a great boon it is to be healthy, not only for one day but for everyday. Be grateful today for your health even if you have nothing else. Because each healthy day will give you the opportunity and the fuel to take on whatever it is you want to achieve in the world.

You can look in the mirror and find a million things wrong with yourself. Or you can look in the mirror and think, ‘I feel good, I have my health, and I’m so blessed.’ That’s the way I choose to look at it.

  1. It’s so true! Unfortunately, only a bad phase in life, dealing with one’s own or a close one’s health issue makes us realise how important health is and how worthless everything else without good health!
